Blake Sinclair, Bathing Suits and Film Tear Sheets

Yeah, I thought we were wrapped for the weekend, but then hot photo assistant Blake Sinclair (the dude with the monkey) posted a comment about lol cats and I went to his site and fell in love with this picture, and felt that I should post it.

*at first i thought it was a band aid but i think it’s a tattoo

Then I went to his blog, and he has screengrabs of Deer Hunter, which he took for photo inspiration, called “film tear sheets”. Which is kind of interesting, because when I was watching Army of Shadows last week, I kept pausing the film and every time it seemed to settle on the most amazing still. Apparently that film was digitally remastered, but it looks like the richest kind of kodachrome.

In any case, some of Blake’s Deer Hunter grabs, below. Does anyone else do this? Send.

Never done the screen grabs but it is a great idea. Last week I was watching “Hang ‘Em High” when I made my husband rewind to look at the dramatic lighting on the characters. It would be nice if I could cram that in my idea file.

I have done grabs of “the magnificent seven”. I can’t say that I have done much with them, but they are nice to look back at.

I can’t believe I’ve never thought to do computer screen grabs. I obsessively shoot my TV screen while watching movies with either my point and shoot digital or my Polaroid. Now I have more options (and clearer shots)!

Thanks for giving Blake some blog love. It nice to see you highlight all different photographers not just the “trendy” or “top”!!! He has great work, also his wife is an amazing photographer. She was one of the reasons I became a photographer. Check her blog out: http://www.jbeckerphoto.com/blog/ screen grabs are cool….

I love blake’s blog, and read it often. this is my first time visiting here. I have done this in the past, but i use my holga and a super old TV to capture the scenes. This process often returns something quite different from the original. here are some shots of the Kim Ki-Duk film Samaritan Girl: http://isokon.net/thethaw/
