I’ve been having a blast watching the coverage at PDN of the similarities between political imagery on the covers of major magazines. I guess there are so many ideas out there. Or only so many images shot by Platon. In any case, here’s a synopsis, graphic-style.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
the 2008 Time cover is a fairly blatant ripoff -er, tribute?- to the NBA playoffs’ ad campaign. Not just the split photo, but also the tagline, word-for-word. i haven’t held the issue in my hand, but i’m sure they gave credit where credit is due…
The word-for-word ripoff/tribute comes from the film ‘Highlander’. Since i’m certain the NBA campaign didn’t offer credit to the film, it’s unreasonable to expect Time to offer credit to the campaign.
