PhotoShelter announced the winners of its Elevation 2008 Student Contest yesterday, after reviewing hundreds of portfolios and thousands of images. The jury-- not so shabby:
Paul Moakley- Senior Photo Editor, Newsweek
Phil Bicker- Creative Director, The Fader
Michelle Egiziano - Director of Photography, Spin Magazine
Michele Outland - Art Director, Nylon Magazine
Stephen Walker - Director of Photography, Nylon Magazine
Clinton Cargill - Associate Photo Editor, the New York Times Magazine
These folks whittled down the talent to five winners:
Mary Amor - Art Center College of Design
Tiana Markova- Gold - International Center of Photography
Carla Richmond - New England School of Photography
Antonio Pulgarin - Fashion Institute of Technology transitioning to School of Visual Arts
Matt Lutton - University of Washington
I am especially impressed with the breadth and quality of Matt Lutton's work. Lutton has yet to receive his BA, and has made some incredible work about Seattle, the Balkans, and Kosovo. Check out his site. Moakley says he would already "definitely think about putting him on assignment. He seems excited to shoot anywhere."
All these images are from Lutton's work on Kosovo. See many more here.
