A car collides into cyclists participating in a race in Mexico's northern border city of Matamoros. At least one person was killed and 14 injured.
*This crop is not one that I made, but rather one that is being published by most news outlets; it was actually difficult to find the original. Interesting. Terrifying.

The image is a good news image of a terrible accident - I'd publish it if I was an editor.
However I don't like the close up crop - the original image is more than shocking enough - the close up adds nothing and in a way detracts from the viewers own imagination when looking at the orignal.
Remember one of those poor airborne cyclists is dying at that moment and the others are painfully injured. I'd remove that close up crop.

This image certainly has been making the rounds - and now on Shoot The Blog? I'd much rather see yet another image of Lynch or an egg than this.
Show a little respect - remember people died here.
BTW, why the closeup?
I don't think it's disrespectful to show an amazing image of a tragedy. I amended the post to say that the crop is not one that I made, but one that has been posted on almost every news site in lieu of the original. That in itself is interesting. Shoot! covers the whole photo industry, and as this image have been Everywhere, it seemed relevant to post. Again, no disrespect intended.

I don't think that the closeup is disrespectful, either. It helped me make sense of the photograph and understand the magnitude of the accident. Without it, I might think I was looking at a photograph of a parade float or something. If the photographer had had a better lens, or had been closer to the accident, you can bet that the shot would have been tighter to begin with. Would that have been seen as disrespectful?
This is a news photograph. It is not about the viewer's imagination, it is about knowing what happened.
I do not find the posting of the image disrespectful. What crosses the line, in my opinion, is the context it has been given in this post.
"The wrong place at the right time." Is clever wordplay really the best choice for introducing this sobering picture? There is little else to frame our consideration...encouraging quick consumption of what should be a more demanding image.

My question is...How the hell did that driver not see the flurry of cyclists in front of him?
Chris
Is this real? i cant even see tire marks, whhich i would expect if the driver had to pull to a quick stop, again the road seem dead straigh so i would have expected to see either the driver or the cyclists at least make attempt to get out the way before he ended up in the centre of them. another thing is why is he on the wrong side of the road?
