Unfortunately it is not technically feasible to serve any pages that require authentication on a domain other than photoshelter.com. The galleries require authentication to check for invite-only download permissions, shopping carts etc... so it is necessary for us to leave the CNAME at that point to enable that functionality. There are some potential "hacks" to get around this, but they are generally not reliable and/or scalable. That said, we understand the importance from an SEO perspective and are planning to revisit the issue soon. Marc PhotoShelter Engineering

I'm looking at Photoshelter as a possible tool to help me market my travel images and I've been intrigued by what I've read here today. However these comments above give me reason for concern regarding Google indexing Photoshelter pages as opposed to my own. Is Photohelter looking to make changes so that in the future we would be allowed to have galleries under our own domain names?

Picski is absolutely right. I don't like the way CNAME integration works. After clients click any link on my site they are directed to Photoshelter web name instead of my customized CNAME. It also causes major problems with Google - most pages are indexed as Photoshelter.com instead of my own CNAME address.

I've found the CNAME integration rather basic. It is only reliable for the Home, Search, About and Gallery List pages. Security issues are understandable for individual image pages where e-commerce is initiated, but having the URL for galleries switch to photoshelter.com/.... causes havoc with sitemaps and drags down SEO.

Hi Fredrik. The only time that would happen is if the client comes to PhotoShelter.com first. We intentionally maintain the PhotoShelter site design for people who come through the PhotoShelter front page because changing the navigation, look, feel, and available options for these people would create confusion. If a customer comes directly to your own site first, they won't get a PhotoShelter-looking template. They will stick with your site design.
