This week we start with a tasty treat, and end with an eerie tale. In between we’ve got plenty of good stuff to help you get a good start to a great weekend.

For those who don’t already know, we come up with a new list of Shout-Outs every Friday. People who send us suggestions often find that we actually mention them, so if you spot something that’s perfect for a Friday Shout, let us know!

A DAY FOR DOUGHNUTS
There is a day for everything, and today is National Doughnut Day in the United States. In honor of a day that celebrates the expansion of waistlines through sweet guilty pleasure, I searched through all of the tasty doughnut photos in PhotoShelter and determined that Richard Eskite‘s image (below) makes my mouth water the most.

Richard Eskite is a very talented food photographer. I suggest you only look at his work if you are prepared to get suddenly very hungry.

Really cool use of a customized PhotoShelter gallery!

SUPER SOCCER FANS
Zute & Demelza Lightfoot have a whole series of images of soccer fans in Africa and their wild costumes.

With World Cup Soccer action coming to South Africa, I can only imagine how much fun it must be to be shooting pictures in the middle of it all.

THAT’S COLD
We were checking out the website of Jeremy Nicholl, a corporate and editorial photographer in Moscow, Russia, and came across a really cool photo of a winter swimmer that deserves to be shared.

“St Petersburg, Russia, January 2003. Petersburgers make the most of the city’s famous parks and waterways at any time of the year – a winter swimmer, known as a walrus, by the Peter Paul Fortress in -25 C,” his caption reads.

CUSTOM TWEAKS
Jerome Lorieau
, an Edinburgh-based freelance photographer, specializes in travel, documentaries and event photography. His images a really nice, and he recently tweaked his PhotoShelter website to his liking by adding several more navigation tabs at the top of the site.

Nice job!

DEVIL’S BRIDGE
Florida-based freelance photographer Gary Bogdon had one of his images published full page in the May 2010 issue of Caribbean Travel & Life magazine. His image, of ‘Devil’s Bridge’ (a natural limestone arch) on the island of Antigua, was shot at night, and he used flashlights to ‘paint’ it with light along with a long exposure.

“As the story goes,” Bogdon said, “slaves would leap to their deaths from this spot rather than submit to slavery. A very surreal look at an infamous spot.”

Congrats, Razor!

I am always looking for things to include here in our Friday Shout-Outs – so if you have anything you think is worthy, let me know.

Or, better yet, post a note to Twitter with my name in it (@heygrover) or “friend me” on Facebook, and that way I won’t forget it later.
