Thanks for this. Always love to see how other photographers use social media. We have built much of our client base through social media but it is great to great to see how others work.

thanks again for the article. i'll bookmark it

Great article. I'm commiting more time and energy to social media marketing of late especially content marketing so reading this has been very helpful.

It's great that they've given really practical advice, like how they incorporate it into the workflow and how the marketing efforts can be measured.

Many thanks,
D

As a commercial and public relations photographer based in Nottingham, England I Tweet @spikephoto, blog at http://nottinghamphotographer.wordpress.com, have LinkedIn Spike Reddington and YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/user/spikephotography I always ask how people get in touch and it's either recommendation or coming through Google Local - can't honestly say I have had any direct business through social media. It takes time to do and I find it distracting as there's lots of 'interesting' stuff to click on and then I find I've lost an hour on aimless browsing :-) I'm beginning to suspect it's an Emperor's New Clothes situation... Cheers Spike

well, it's a best way to earn on photos already shot. I used to do car photography for the italian magazine, now my site shows up #7 in google, month ago calendar company from United states approached me for sale of around 10 images, at 250 euros each! I don't earn bread with photography, but this fees help with buying gear and enjoying photography even more! great artists reviewed btw. Social marketing is a must for every business in 21 century. If in middle ages banner in bazaar would get you clientèle, now if you want to be noticed you have to use social media equivalent to modern gathering place.

Hey Grover, Hot topic, good content and information for us photographers. Timely, I asked our members at the Memphis Camera Club how many were using Social Media last night. Very few, hopefully my sharing of this will help change that. I've embraced Social Media and it has improved my SEO, and gotten additional clients.

Good read! Social Media is key but it takes time and you have to use it regularily, it can't be random. I'm a Toronto wedding photographer and I blog my weddings, tweet the post, and also link to the blog post from my Facebook page. I don't get much traffic from twitter but the Facebook "I like" button on my page has helped a lot with hits. A strategy I haven't done yet is become "friends" on FB with my wedding couples, upload their pics and tag them so all their friends see the photos which has worked for many other photographers I know. I hear Tumblr is the latest "hot" social media tool, but I don't think I can manage more than another one.
