The Lunar Eclipse: PhotoShelter’s Front Row Seats
These days, we’ve come to expect if something’s happening somewhere in the world, you can bet good money at least one PhotoShelter member will be there photographing it. Last night, something cool happened in the solar system – a lunar eclipse – which apparently won’t come around again until 2094.
Lo and behold, PhotoShelter members were there. Several have shared their shots from different locations around the world.
Here’s a sampling:
Scott Thompson, Truckee California
Logan Mock Bunting, Washington DC
Alonzo Adams, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Khampha Bouaphanh, Fort Worth, Texas
Tommy Cochrane, Universal News & Sport, Airdrie, North Lankanshire UK
Marcos Issa, Argosfoto, Brazil

If you got out to shoot the special event, please share your best pics below!
My first attempt at time lapse photography. It was a labor of love because it was coooooollllldddd and my tripod is cheap. I know what I’m going to ask Santa for! http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=1781044568727&oid=109872545704185&comments
Love everyone’s work. Like a shared experience. South Florida was cooler than normal but the skies were clear. I really enjoyed watching the eclipse, the unusual lighting and the red color reminded me of a heated stone. -Shane
“Last night, something cool happened in the solar system – a lunar eclipse – which apparently won’t come around again until 2094.” Technically what made last night’s Lunar Eclipse special, is that it was full, visible in all of the United States, AND happened on the Winter Solstice. Full lunar eclipses are relatively common (2 per year). Having a full lunar eclipse that you can see without traveling to it, less so, and seeing a Full Lunar Eclipse on the Winter Solstice, only once every 500ish years. I missed the lunar eclipse last night… But I did photograph one in 2008, which is still one of my favorite composited photos (17 images in total): http://EruditeExpressions.com/archives/6297_1579073640/280747
I got to photograph the lunar eclipse from my fire escape in Brooklyn! Here’s a link to the sequence:http://bit.ly/gfGIjO

Thank you Photoshelter! I was going to post a link to my photo but you beat me to it, and the first one on the page, I’m honored. I remember wondering how many other photographers were out shooting the same moon, it’s nice to see so many great images of it by fellow photoshelter photographers. Here’s a link to my little blogpost about the image: http://scottshotsphoto.blogspot.com/2010/12/total-lunar-eclipse-on-winter-solstice.html
There was a snowstorm in the northern part of Iceland where I live, but for few moments the sky cleared and I got few frames with 700 mm. http://photos.gudmann.is/gallery/Moon-Eclipse/G0000R.Ln9MQYUCg
GAAAAAAAA It was cloudy and it rained here in Japan. Deeply jealous of everyone else, but well done for those great images above.
Please check your facts before printing it: Next Total Luna Eclipse in 2014 Apr 15. 2014 actually has two the second is Oct 8 and both can been seen in the US. For more see NASA’s web site http://eclipse.gsfc.nasa.gov/LEdecade/LEdecade2011.html — Happy holidays to all of you from all of us
I didn’t have the proper lense to shoot it up close so I chose to shoot time lapse of the eclipse.
I took these pictures from Panama, nearby the canal. At he begining It was totally cloudy and rainy but it was only at the beginning. Suddenly the clouds dissapeared after one week raining and raining. It was incredible, I coud not believe that. Happy Christmas!!!!!
