10 Cool Photos of Electrical Power
All this news of nuclear reactors made me think of the electrical grid that covers the world, and how this works its way into photography. It’s not like you can actually photograph electrical current, but it’s still extremely visual and prominent nearly everywhere we look.
From within the PhotoShelter community, I found many images that show the visual effect that electrical power has around the world. Here are a few of my favorites…
Dry Zone Toque Macaque by Barney Wilczak.
Tehachapi, California by Daryl Peveto.
Kyoto, Japan: An electricity pole by Huw Lambert/ JellyFish Photography.
Hand creating static electricity by Mark E. Gibson.
Water and Electricity Rationing in Venezuela by Meridith Kohut.
Birds, Dallas Texas by Laura Allen.
Light bulb from sodapix/F1online.
Palmdale, California by Daryl Peveto.
War of the Worlds, Suffolk, 2008 by Paul Cooklin.
Robin and warning sign by Ed Maynard.

The ever present sneakers hanging in the wires. Which seem to crop up everywhere anymore. Hi guys, another great selection of images and I’m really pleased to have been chosen for the lead. This is the nice thing with Photoshelter, the community aspect really opens you up to a lot of great photographers that I we have otherwise been unaware of. As you have provided a feed line for it I will inject a bit of shameless self promotion! Over the past three years I have been working on a project documenting a beautiful series of hay meadows in the UK. As agricultural practices have changed we have lost 98% of these species rich habitats in 60 years. This and the issues of conserving these wonderful habitats will be the subject of my first book and a sample can be seen in the Clattinger Farm gallery of my website. The book will be published by Frances Lincoln and will be likely to be released in March 2012. As this is a long way off I am running a promotion to remind people when it is released. If you are interested in the book just send me a message through my contact page and I will email you when it is released. There is no nefarious purpose and I will not share it with anyone else. Equally, there is no commitment to buy. In return if you do buy a book from me after its release I will give you a one off 40% reduction off a prints purchase (however many you want in this one purchase)! I will be pulling this offer before it’s release so if you like the photographs and think you might be interested just contact me. OK, the sales pitch is over! Thanks once again for featuring my photograph and best wishes to everyone reading the blog.

This is an 3 exposure HDR shot of power lines in my back alley. These aren’t actually on fire, it was just a cloudy day and I tweaked the HDR in post to get this look. http://www.flickr.com/photos/lachlan_mcadam/4587888795/in/set-72157624015455980/#/photos/lachlan_mcadam/4587888795/in/set-72157624015455980/lightbox/
Link? I wouldn’t know where to start… I have shots of transmission towers and lines, transformers, wind mills, insulators, electric vehicles, electrical powered appliances, light bulbs, street lamps etc… All in various galleries. some artistic, some just basic documetary style. http:\www.alanlook.com
A great concept and some very interesting images. As a landscape photographer I try to avoid power lines but in South Florida they can be prolific. Key West Florida http://www.shanesrogi.com/img-show/I0000DHP9eiYvI3U South Florida http://www.shanesrogi.com/img-show/I0000tTij3Kt7aG8

How many times have we photshopped “out” powerlines and poles or towers to make our pictures a little nicer? This stuff is all around us though and as the subject itself can make for some pretty interesting photos. http://www.flickr.com/photos/11199582@N03/4971362206/#/
