If you’re my mom and you read all my blogs, then you might remember that I love movies, and that I love The New York Times Magazine Hollywood Issue. The portraits are always wonderful, and they get such great photographers each year.

Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadi photographed the feature for several years. I loved this cover image of Clint Eastwood from 2006:

Photojournalist Paolo Pelligrin hit a homerun with a journalistic style. This Robert Downey Jr. photo is still one of my favorites:

And then of course video became all the rage, and it made total sense to not restrict the great performances to still photos. This piece of James Franco from “Fourteen Actors Acting,” directed by Solve Sundsbo, really cracked me up.

Come on. A dude kissing himself in a mirror? That’s so arrogant and narcissistic! Oh wait, A-rod did it for Steven Klein in Details

But I digress.

This year’s Hollywood Issue features photographer Alex Prager stepping into the director’s chair. You might remember Alex from her weird technicolor cinematic images. And I think it’s fair to say that the quirkiness of her style pulls through pretty effectively in the “Touch of Evil” feature.

My favorite? I don’t know much about Rooney Mara other than the fact that she’s starring in “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo,” but I will tell you this. If you like “Top Secret” and Kubrick, you’re gonna love this piece.

And just to remind you that the girl can still shoot a still. Here’s Eraserhead, er, Brad Pitt.

See ya at the movies!
