Video Interview: Brian Smith’s Secrets of Great Portrait Photography
He might photograph celebrities, but Brian Smith is a celebrity all his own. In this very popular webinar, Brian discussed everything from why photographers need to be 15-second psychoanalysts, to the importance of keeping a database of possible shoot locations in your head, to the benefits of putting subjects up on a pedestal or getting them down on your level – literally!
Thanks once again to Brian for a fantastic and insightful look into the world of portrait photography. If you have any more questions for Brian, please leave them in the comments.
Excellent video. I was able to learn some practical tips in terms of how to deal with different types of people.
Brilliant interview of high value. Though some works seem a little bit to unspectacular to me I highly appreciate the tips and some of the portraits with a severe expression. Thanks a lot for the content and way of presenting it.

The Race track photo is a bit confusing – the key light is from the camera right but so is the shadow of the subject and the flag. the sun seems to have been cancelled out by underexposing and using the power of the strobe so I find it surprising that the shadow should be so contrasty… any thoughts?
I would welcome regular contact with Photo Shelter.
