I think back to the professional family photos taken when I was a kid. The photographer would take them in black and white, then colorize them, making the image more surreal and painting-like. Why didn't he just take them in color? I don't know, but looking back now, it's an interesting piece of history in the evolution of photography along with a representation of trends of the time.

I love Walter's photos. I am completely taken in by The Abandoned St. Nicholas Coal Breaker.

As with all things, Time will tell. Shall we discuss selective color, like the red rose, on a black and white photograph? Perhaps we should also talk about darkroom techniques like the ever so amazing High School Double exposure Photograph?

Of course we could also say Ansel Adams cheated, with all the dodging and burning, too.

Let's talk when an HDR photograph commands a Million dollar plus price tag at a fine art auction. I'm sure it will happen, but not for a while.

HDR Does not need a defense.

I began in film photography and many of the same criticisms were directed toward using using filters on the camera.

Photography is art. Art needs no defense.
