Veteran documentary photographer Ami Vitale and photojournalist Elizabeth Dalziel have traveled to more than 100 countries between them, and have learned some invaluable lessons when it comes to protecting themselves and staying safe. And while these women have traveled outside of their home countries on numerous occasions, the truth is that dangerous conditions can exist right in your backyard. No matter where you are, when you’re working in an unfamiliar location, you need to be vigilant, aware, and prepared.

In this live webinar, Ami and Elizabeth discuss their top lessons learned from working in potentially threatening situations. They covered everything from assessing risk, to getting a “fixer”, to how to deal with the stress and trauma of documenting difficult situations. Also included is information on:

  • How to properly research your destination and prepare a security assessment
  • How to find a trustworthy guide, or “fixer”
  • What to do if someone is following you, rips you off, or is taken into custody
  • The importance of protecting your personal information and having allies in the field
