Taking photos is easy and often fun. Building a business is hard. We spoke to John Harrington, author of More Best Business Practices for Photographers, to find out what makes a good photographer a great businessperson. John thinks that photographers too often cave to their emotions when dealing with business decision.
“When someone says, ‘that’s too expensive,’ your emotional reaction is to say, ‘Oh ok, I’ll do it for less,’ because you want to be liked. You want to be the selected photographer,” reasoned John. But don’t be a fool! Listen to the sound of your internal cash register, not your heart when it comes to business decisions.
