One of PhotoShelter's benefits is the ability to archive high-resolution images files online. And although we have some great ways to upload images in batch (e.g. Photo Mechanic, Apple Aperture, and our own Uploader), we didn't have an easy way to download in batch. But contrary to the conspiracy theorists, we weren't trying to hold your images hostage.

Generic services that we've seen offer OS-specific applications or used WebDAV to simulate a shared volume, but since we allow users to re-embed IPTC meta data and wanted to avoid yet another application, we decided to create a Java applet that works in your browser. Now you can serially download your images without relying on zip files or installing some piece of software on your computer.
