Last Friday I was too busy hanging out at the Burger Truck, and wasn’t able to squeeze in my weekly Shout-Out ritual. But to make up for it, I thought I would share some of the burger love here – one week later.

Also this week, we take a look at some “toxic jeans,” a dose of “insanity,” dramatic aerial photos, and one photographer’s really impressive body of work.

Shout-Outs are a regular Friday thing, and you can be part of it, too. Send us suggestions! If we think it’s worth shouting about, it will show up here in the blog on a Friday. To submit something, scroll to the bottom to see how.

FREE FOOD WITH PHOTO FRIENDS
Instead of standing in a 10×30 foot box for three days in a row at PhotoPlus Expo in New York City last week, we decided to do something much more fun that took far less time for the Expo this year.

We rolled up into a parking lot across the street from the Expo in a tricked-out burger truck and gave out free hamburgers to about 200 tradeshow attendees. Must admit, it was a fun time.

The first person in line to receive their free burger – our friend and photography business expert John Harrington. I would expect nothing less, as John always knows a good deal when he sees one.

It was also great to catch up with some people I haven’t seen in a while. We were shooting photos live, and thanks to a cool Nikon transmitter, those photos were automatically streaming into a PhotoShelter gallery. Some people caught on camera: Andrew Gombert, Keith Bedford, Ingrid Spangler from AdoramaPix, Brian Smith, Andrew Owen, Jack Hollingsworth and Trevor Current, Miki Johnson and Rachel LaCour Niesen (who, by the way, look like twins – which is kinda scary), Mark Finkenstaedt, and Chris from Think Tank Photo.

Although it was a little chilly that day, our timing was perfect because as soon as it ended and just as we finished cleaning up, it started to rain.

They were some tasty burgers!

TOXIC JEANS
I saw a really interesting photo story from Felix Features called “Lesotho: Toxic Jeans by Robin Hammond“.

“Gap’s decision to develop the production of jeans and T-shirts in Lesotho had heralded an era of opportunity for one of the world’s poorest nations,” the summary reads. “A Sunday Times investigation has exposed an unforeseen consequence of that commitment – the dumping of tons of waste, much of it dangerous, at unsecured municipal sites.”

Felix Features is an independent picture agency based in Oslo, Norway.

INSANITY CAN BE FUNNY, TOO
Washington DC-based photographer Paul Morse attended the Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear and shot a fun collection of images neatly contained within a gallery called “Insanity!

This looked like a fun event.

IMPRESSIVE
I’m really impressed with the “SURREALIA” gallery of images by Carl-Johan Westergren, a photographer and creative image professional based out of Paris, France.

Westergren’s main specialities include reportage, portraiture, and street photography, but recently he’s been busy with advertising, fashion and nude photography for a variety of clients.

I spent a good chunk of time today cruising through the galleries on his website (all were fantastic), but the SURREALIA gallery was the one I enjoyed most.

DRAMA FROM THE AIR
I happened across a really cool gallery of dramatic aerial photos from Seattle-based photographer Sean Frego. Definitely worth a look.

I am always looking for things to include here in our Friday Shout-Outs – so if you have anything you think is worthy, let me know. One great way to do that is to post a note to Twitter with my name in it (@heygrover) and that way I won’t forget it later. Don’t have Twitter? Email me, grover-at-photoshelter-dot-com.
