Friday Shout-Outs, Two Thumbs-Up, and Worthy Mentionables

This week’s shouts prove that fight club actually exists in more than the movies. We also see the aftermath of the stampede in Cambodia, a really nice customization job, one photog’s best motorsports of 2010, and a last-chance warning to see a cool photo exhibition in London.

OH NO… HE’S TALKING ABOUT FIGHT CLUB!
William B. Plowman, a freelance photojournalist currently based in Washington DC, shot an incredible series of documentary images titled “NYC: Underground Fight Club“.

“On the third floor of a nondescript warehouse building in Manhattan the “Friday Night Throwdown” is about to begin,” Plowman writes. “Underground fight club fans, gamblers, hipsters and those in the know pack the perimeter of the plywood ring. Through the haze of marijuana & cigarette smoke, the booming bass of the dj spinning dubstep and the shouts of the amped up crowd, the bouts go deep into the morning. That is…until the NYPD arrive.”

Fascinating story.

STAMPEDE IN CAMBODIA
Quinn Ryan Mattingly, a photojournalist based out of Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, has been busy covering the Cambodian Stampede Tragedy that happened in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on November 22nd 2010.

Great access, and a talented eye, really tells the story of this tragic event. Nice job Quinn.

SWEET CUSTIMIZATION!
Ken Kaminesky, a freelance, commercial travel and lifestyle photographer based in Montreal, Canada, did an incredible job customizing his PhotoShelter website to match his blog.

Kaminesky is selling a selection of his travel and lifestyle images as prints and stock directly from his website, using his blog as an entry point into his archive. Really well-done.

SELECTISM
Geoff Waugh, a UK-based freesports and adventure photographer, specializes in cyclesport of all disciplines.

Waugh’s gallery show, “Selectism – a collection of cycling photos by Geoff Waugh“, will be ending its run on November 30th at 10pm. If you’re in London, and wish to see it, run over to the “Look Mum No Hands cafe bar”, 49 Old Street in the City of London.
