Discovered today on Twitter…

If you watched the Super Bowl earlier this month, there’s no way you missed the Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel in action. Brett’s the really big guy with a larger-than-life, grizzly beard. Brett hadn’t shaved from June through February (about 8 months of growth) and “Da Beard” actually became a major storyline in the Steelers run to the Super Bowl. Never before has the world seen a few pounds of facial hair occupy its own tshirts and twitter accounts and Facebook pages. Today, Keisel will shave off Da Beard in a charity event to support Pittsburgh’s UPMC Children’s Hospital. Celebrity barbers will have the task of shaving off the beard in “The Ultimate Mountain Man Makeover” at Diesel Nightclub on Pittsburgh’s South Side. Details and tickets.

Pittsburgh portrait photographer Carol Maurin
has photographed Keisel and his family, and is using the photos of
Keisel and Da Beard to help raise funds and contribute to two charities
that Brett and Sarah Keisel care about – the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
and the Homeless Children’s Education Fund. Its a great, simple way to use the print sales capability on Carol’s PhotoShelter website for a good cause. We wanted to share the photos to help Carol, Brett and Da Beard with their very worthwhile fundraising efforts. Brett seems like a great guy.

Check out Carol’s full gallery of Brett Keisel photos and please share this with anyone you know who’s a fan of the Steelers, or beards.
