Katie Orlinsky in the New York Times

PhotoShelter user Katie Orlinsky has a fascinating photo essay in the New York Times about how the Mexican drug war is affecting women and children, as more an more women are sucked into the role of complicity.

Her essay includes portraits of the incarcerated women, some of whom are raising children in prison. A fascinating study in a long term project.

Fascinating, yet so sad. Crime, drugs and the cartel wars are destroying Mexico – we seldom think about these people and the harsh lives they have to live.
