Full Preview: The Brand New PhotoShelter

Full Preview: The Brand New PhotoShelter

In case you missed our live preview webinars yesterday, we’re posting a video recording here so that you’re prepared for Saturday’s major upgrades. Last week we shared a short preview video of the new and improved image uploader, but now we think it’s time for you to see how we’ve radically improved the image management and delivery tools inside the PhotoShelter “Photographer’s Area” (i.e. the backend of your PhotoShelter website). This is the first phase in the brand new PhotoShelter – a year long series of major upgrades to our service. Check out the video to get acquainted with the new interface, and how these major improvements will help streamline your workflow.

Some big things to keep in mind:

  • Our scheduled full system downtime – the period when you cannot access your PhotoShelter account as we implement the changes – is on Saturday, March 24th, from 12:01am to 8:00am EDT.
  • Our dedicated FAQs page should answer many of your questions or concerns.
  • We are here to help! Please contact us by phone or email. Our team will be working extra hours this weekend to make sure that you transition smoothly to the new PhotoShelter.
Major feature upgrades shown in this video:
  • New 3-pane Image Browser. Your Archive Browser and Gallery List will be combined into a single toolkit so you can manage your photography in one single view. Upload directly into galleries for faster, easier publishing and client delivery. Plus, you’ll find a host of new organizational tools that you can access right in the Image Browser. But don’t worry – images and galleries can still be “hidden” and unlisted in this view so that they’re visible to you alone (just like your current archive).
  • Infinite gallery nesting. The long asked-for feature is finally here! Nest galleries as many levels deep as you’d like for improved organization. The organizational structure will appear on both your account and your website.
  • More flexible download and visibility options. More control over how you customize the way clients and groups interact with your content. Select a gallery’s visibility (“everyone”, “those with permission”, or “no one but me”) at the time of creation, and then choose if you want to send gallery invites or make it password protected. Mix and match your options – for example, create galleries that are visible to all, but grant download access to only those with a password. Really any combination is in your control!
  • New Quick Send tool for image delivery. Easily select any group of images and send your client a link for a one-time ZIP download. This works right from your new Image Browser search, so there’s no need to create new galleries every time a client requests a set of images.

As you go through the preview, you’ll notice dozens of additional tweaks and improvements that will help speed up your workflow and allow you to do more with your photos. We’re really, really excited for these changes on Saturday, March 24th. Discuss the changes on Twitter by hashtagging #newphotoshelter or talk with other photographers in the PhotoShelter member forums. And get ready for the first phase of a brand new PhotoShelter!

I am always in awe of programmers. What an incredible looking set of changes. I love the search in the archives. Looking forward to using them.

    Hi,

Under the new Photoshelter update, is there anyway I could prevent my EXIF data publicly displaying once upload my photos from Adobe Light Room?

All the best with your new update.

Great Job. Looking forward to Saturday & the new Photoshelter. Multiple nestings & permissions are really awesome.

What about the little green “SEO” icon? Did not see it in the preview video. Is that still going to be around guiding us as to what is important for SEO?

When will images be able to displayed full screen?. The image display size now is too small compared to your competition. Small image display is the main complaint that I hear with visitors to my site. The ability to show images full screen will have greater impact on customers which will drive sales faster than easier navigation. Please let me know if full screen display is in the works.
    Thanks,
    Greg

The updates look great! I am looking forward to the multiple nesting feature. I too am wondering about the green SEO features. Also are there any specific feature changes for MU accounts?

Impressive, looking forward to implementing new procedures. A question: What happens to the magnificent third party integration with Photoshop Lightroom. This Dutch guy wrote a wonderful add-on to Lightroom which makes uploading from Lightroom easy and replicates the Photoshelter folder structure to a Lightroom publishing function. Is this going to be history?

Thank you for the Quick Send no more $120 a year to yousendit.com!! Looking forward to .csv upload and address book upgrades. Your commitment to your clients is admirable.

I didn’t see it in the presentation.
Will there be a way to give a client a password to a gallery the allows them
to select a few images to download from the gallery rather than the batch
download that downloads all the images from the gallery?
    Thanks,
    Vance

    • Lauren Margolis at 1:50 pm

@Vance Yes, clients can select images to download, but they will do so one by one. The ability to download only selected images but in batch will be coming in future updates. Thanks!

So how do we get a piece of that Oreo cheese cake?
I’m looking forward to the updates, and to hear about what else is on the horizon.

And about the site design? Any changes? I’m tired of my website’s look and all the options available are not so nice as well, unless you know how to customize the pages, which is not my case.

Nice! I’m really impressed that you released some module code open source. That is something that for me personally really raises my views of photoshelter. Thankyou for contributing to making the world (web) a better place for everyone 🙂

@ Lauren – Congrats for getting the new site up & running well within the time stated. Looking forward to all the new features.

Regd. the SEO icon, yes it is there in the web customisation pages but not in the image browser. Earlier we had them next to the file name & the IPTC meta data that were important for SEO. Those were really helpful & now one can not see them while editing the IPTC

Thanks also for all the effort that Photoshelter puts in educating us photographers in marketing and SEO. I for one really appreciate it.

When will you folks doing something about your designs ? …. I have emailed you a number of times ,in past weeks without any real info on this . I have two sites with you , 1- an editorial / commercial site + 2 a wedding site . I have decided to transfer my wedding site to Big Folio because they offer the larger site designs that brides want , but I would prefer to stay with you , because of all your info + seo, but I have had not feedback from you about site designs intentions …… this should be your main priority , because it is for me + many others, I can see atleast two in this post alone . The same is true for my editorial site ….. I’m planning on going with APhotoFolio , because the designs are LARGE + Clean ….eventhoug they are flash based . I may keep you on as a online storage area , as many people have done .
Please inform us all of what design changes are coming & when , otherwise you may lose me altogether & as I said before I really like what you do , but I’m in the dark regarding your design upgrades ….. I for one want clean , easy to navigate + large display , but not flash …. I know I want it all but hey doesn’t everybody 🙂

    1) Where is explanation of how to get only gallery collections to show as I had before? My galleries page used to only show the collections, now it shows both collections and solo galleris, without any visual distinction on the page.

    2) Also, if I want to get rid of the archive area, do I delete the selected folders/collections there?

    3) this movie was too long for practical information

    • Lauren Margolis at 8:36 am

@ Lori All of our new help docs related to the upgrades can be found here: http://bit.ly/GL6VQR In regards to your questions, #1 you may need to reorganize the galleries listed on your website in the Image Browser – make sure that galleries are nested under the desired collections, and then these changes should be reflected on your website. #2 you can get rid of the archive area, but be sure that those images live in other galleries/collections so that you do not loose them. Please let us know if you have any further questions, support@photoshelter.com. Thanks for your patience!

    Allen,

Great video! I wish I had seen it, sooner–it was buried somewhere deep in my Junk Mail folder, until, today. Farah was very helpful helping me implement changes to my archive with the new system, but the broken Collection links made the interface with my blog a headache. I especially like the new feature that allows one to hide photos and keep them publicly searchable! Thanks for the great service and for transferring my issues to Farah!

Would love to be able to switch to Photoshelter because of the easy blogging integration and other features, but the relatively small screen size is a non starter for me. Will stick where I am for now.
