Don’t Miss Out! PHOTOVILLE: A Unique Photo Exhibition in Brooklyn

One event you don’t want to miss out on this summer is PHOTOVILLE, a new Brooklyn-based photo “destination” hosted by the Brooklyn Bridge Park and United Photo Industries. As an art-presenting cooperative, United Photo Industries is dedicated to conjuring unexpected exhibitions all over the world, fostering the creativity of emerging photographers and cultivating new directions in photography.

PHOTOVILLE takes the idea of your traditional photo exhibition to a whole new level: the temporary exhibition (June 22 – July 1) is a veritable village of freight containers transformed into temporary exhibition spaces. Photoville will be located on the uplands of Pier 3 right in the heart of Brooklyn Bridge Park in NYC. Check it out:

We’re also really excited to announce that PhotoShelter is hosting the Photoville’s gallery website at photoville.photoshelter.com! Anyone can upload photos that they take at Photoville! Simply go to bit.ly/photovilleuploads and log in using:

Beyond the exhibitions – which will be featuring work from Magnum award-winner Bruce Gilden, a NY Times group exhibition on 9/11, winners from PDN’s “The Curator, and more – Photoville will also host workshops and lectures. Some presentations we’re excited about include:

  • Photo news source BagNewsNotes, “The State of the News Photo.”
  • British photographer David Graham‘s hands-on workshop, “Great Portraits in 15 Second” will show participants how to improve their portrait photography, and are also invited to submit their portraits for a special exhibition at Photoville. Registration is free: Sat. June 23 and Sun. June 24.
  • ASMPs, “The Future of Photography” presented by Gail Mooney on the question of whether we’re over-saturating our culture with imagery or is visual imagery simply the foremost way we communicate?
  • Photographer Wyatt Gallery‘s “Using Your Photography to Make A Difference” and his crowdfunding campaign to publish a book on Haiti’s tent cities.
  • Self-publishing platform & photo sharing community FotoVisura‘s “Women in Photography.”

And as if that wasn’t enough, PHOTOVILLE will also feature THE FENCE, a summer-long outdoor photo exhibition curated and produced by PDN. THE FENCE is a result of a juried contest asking photographers to explore the theme of “community.” Winning images were printed on photographic mesh and will be displayed on this public photographic installation that runs down the piers alongside the Brooklyn Bridge.

Need more? There’s also a dog park, beer garden, and food trucks making an appearance at Photoville. Did we mention this is all free? Seriously, don’t miss out – check out opening times and get yourself over to Photoville. We’ll be there this weekend and we hope to see you, too!
