5 Street Style Blogs to Follow During Fashion Week

Fashion week has hit New York City, and despite freak snowstorms and rainy weather, the fashionistas continue to hit the streets in mile-high stiletto heels and spring-like attire.

While the main focus remains on the runway, in recent years fashion has also turned its eye to the street. The blogging boom largely contributed to the rise in street style coverage, where anyone with a camera, good taste, and a WordPress blog could cover what was happening before the shows even got started.

Bill Cunningham of The New York Times might still be the most well known and respect street style photographer out there, but many up-and-coming photographers are making names of their own. And we’re not talking amateur photography – these bloggers have serious talent.

So in the midst of fashion week, here are 5 street style blogs you should be following this week – and any week of the year for that matter.

The Cut Street Style

This first one might be a bit of a cheat, as The Cut is New York Magazine‘s fashion blog, but it has arguably the best compilation of street style photography year round. Not to mention, big picture slideshows organized by event or trend. Lately photographer Youngjun Koo has been taking all the photos, who has a real knack for capturing people on the move and getting closeup, detailed shots.

Cupcakes and Cashmere

Los Angeles-based blogger Emily Schuman talks fashion, food, and decor on her blog. The fashion shots are all of herself, snapped by her husband with her Nikon D700. Emily blogs full-time and has partnered with brands like Coach, Forever 21, and Estee Lauder. Her shots are generally pretty airy and filled with tons of natural light.

 The Blonde Salad

Italian student and blogger Chiara Ferragni has been at the street style game since fall of 2009, and she’s no stranger to the runway – she’s modeled for Alberta Ferretti and collaborated with brands such as Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, Chanel, and others. Chiara also boasts 281,000+ “likes” on her Facebook page, which puts her up there with some of the biggest names in the business. Her photos tend to be really fun and full of color, usually with some old and beautiful European church or cobbled street as her backdrop.

The Sartorialist

Here’s where things get a little more serious-minded: photographer and blogger Scott Schuman started his blog “with the idea of creating a two-way dialogue about the world of fashion and its relationship to daily life.” He’s worked for GQ in recent years on his own feature, and his work is included in the permanent collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum and the Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography. Scott is often front and center at the fashion shows.

Streetgeist

Streetgeist is a project by Greek-born partners Alkistis Tsitouri & Aris Karatarakis, who now both reside in Los Angeles. Their blog is a little on the smaller side, but their work has been recognized in other street style blogs like The Cut and Vogue online. Photos are usually taken of their subjects head on, and feature people from all walks of life.

love the reach out to fashion street bloggers, but cupcakes and cashmere & the blonde salad are blogs consisting mostly of themselves wearing different outfits. A few other awesome street blogs are: all the pretty birds, lee oliveira & le 21 eme.com.

I totally love the sharp eye of Adam from le-21eme. And agree with previous comments, Chiara’s blog is amazing, doesn’t show much of street style looks during the fashion weeks.

I guess depending on the location of the fashion week, it is really interesting to follow the local bloggers.
