Each week, we compile our favorite photos from Lattice, our new community where you can discover, share and connect about photography. Find inspiration in the images and celebrate the talented photographers (yourself included!) who captured them. It’s that simple.

This week, we tried to find the best photojournalistic images on Lattice. These are photos that tell important and topical stories, but are shot in a way that is conducive to the distribution of newsworthy information. We found these in a variety of boards, from Weavers to Protests Around Police Brutality.

Check them out!

This first photo by Sean Hawkey is of a Fairtrade certified cotton farmer in Sitaoulé Bananding. It’s a great composition, with the cotton in the foreground framing the worker as well as informing us of the context of the image. For more photos like this, take a look at the Weavers board on Lattice.

Now, we look at this moving photograph by Courtney Perry of a couple celebrating the passing of a bill allowing gay marriage in Minnesota. In this, the citizens crowd the frame, appearing to overtake the structures of the government that surround them, while the action in the foreground emphasizes this historic victory. Check out more photos on this issue in the Gay Marriage board, curated by Allie Jones.

Next, we look at this dramatically-lit photo by Kristine Nyborg of Hillary Clinton campaigning for John Kerry in 2004. The surrounding darkness puts the spotlight on her, possibly foreshadowing her own presidential bid four years later, and now again. Explore her career on Lattice with the Hillary Clinton in Pictures board.

Here, we have a striking photo of Thai inmates fighting by KC Ortiz. The composition separates the fighters from the crowd, while the ropes stress the notion that they are behind bars, all the while still competing in a spectator sport. Find out more about Thai Prison Fights in the board KC Ortiz curated.

Lastly, we look at this photo by Angeliki Panagiotou depicting the clash between protesters and riot police. The headlights from the police van silhouette and the lone figure who appears to be up against a wall of cops, emphasizing the fight between the people and the establishment. Check out more photos of Protests Around Police Brutality in the board by Westbrook Johnson.
