65 Inspiring Photo Workshops Happening In 2016

65 Inspiring Photo Workshops Happening In 2016

Photographers are no strangers to learning new skills and technology. For our third year in a row, we’ve compiled a list of workshops to help you continue doing just that!

This roundup of photo workshops, organized by location and date, is great for the photographer looking to refine their technique. But on top of that, the benefits of photography workshops go far beyond learning new skills—whether the class is set in a local studio or requires traveling abroad to exotic regions—you’ll be learning from well-known photographers, meeting other professionals in the industry and adding beautiful and powerful images to your portfolio.

Check out the list below, and note that in most cases, the workshops listed are just a sampling of what each organization has planned for 2016. And of course, if you’re leading a workshop or know of one we missed, leave it in the comments section below!

For us, most of 2016 is sold out, but we have openings in the latter part of 2016 on our Iceland, Olympic NP, Acadia NP, Scotland, Arizona, Cuba, Italy and Slovenia workshops for 2016. All the details are here:

    http://muenchworkshops.com/workshops

We’ve been teaching photographers and taking them to the coolest places on the planet since 2007, with over 100 successful photo workshops completed worldwide, and we have over 30 open workshops on offer including most of our 2017 schedule. We hope you’ll take a look!

Thank you so much for featuring my workshops in your roundup for 2016! While those listed above are popular field workshops I am leading this year, I have also been working very hard on a new one-day seminar called Photography as Art. With art history as a reference point, I have created this seminar for individuals who want to spark their imagination and discover how to make an artistic statement through photography and create intentional art no matter where you are. For more information & scheduled cities: http://artwolfe.com/create

    Thanks again!

    The FOCUS Conference

    http://www.focusconference2016.com/

FOCUS 2016 is an intense, 2-day conference for photographers serious about their businesses.

If you have an interest in making your photography business successful and profitable, this conference is for you. We won’t be covering the mechanics of shooting or editing. We will be focusing on the aspects of business that increase your profits, giving you advice that will give real results, and providing wisdom from years of experience in photography sales. We are confident you will come away with inspiration, confidence, and solid strategies to take your business to the next level and make it more profitable than you dared to imagine.

    Why Choose FOCUS 2016?

FOCUS is the only conference of its kind, concentrating on the business of photography first.
Learning sales, marketing, communication, branding, pricing and business is best done in person!

FOCUS is taught by real working photographers, not rock-stars, not professional speakers.
Last year’s participants have ALL gone on to improve their business and dramatically increase their sales.

FOCUS is not corporately sponsored; you won’t find any hard-sell tactics trying to get you to buy more stuff.

Access to an exclusive Alumni Group on Facebook after the conference so your learning can continue with your fellow students and speakers.

FOCUS speakers are qualified far beyond their camera skills; many have degrees, certifications and recognition in business, education, marketing and teaching.

Go home with practical solutions and learning that you can apply to your business the very next day.

FOCUS is the only way to learn from 10+ photographers with solid businesses focused on full-service (in-person sales) style photography.

To take individual classes from each of our speakers would cost you more than $15,000!

FOCUS allows you to tailor your learning experience, with classes specifically intended for those new to full-service retail photography, and for those who are very experienced.
Washington DC in the spring is gorgeous! (Bring your camera!)

This is a great list and thanks for the support. We would like to be part of it.

We are heading to Cuba May 5th to the 12th 2016, just a few seats left
    http://www.cameravoyages.com/trips/cuban-lifestyle

We also have a great line-up for the fall.

    Camera Voyages
    http://www.cameravoyages.com

Travel like a journalist, live like a native, shoot like a professional.

Camera Voyages is a collective of well-known professional photographers who also know the value of becoming embedded in exotic cultures. Because of our extensive experience and familiarity with the countries we visit, our itineraries are full of unique photo opportunities, including visits to local trades-people, artists, farmers, restaurants and events. But our schedules are also always flexible, so we can take advantage of the inevitable unscheduled opportunities as well. We feel this is, by far, the best way to find exciting new stories you can tell with your cameras.

This list is awesome! Calibrate Retreat is also one to add to the list! This is Calibrate’s launch year with our first retreat happening April 16 at Emerald Lake Lodge in the Rocky Mountains of Canada with our keynote speaker (and ridiculously talented photographer) James Day (coming all the way to Canada from Australia)!

    Spots still available!

I highly recommend the landscape and nature photography classes offered by Point Reyes Field Institute at Pt. Reyes National Seashore just north of San Francisco, CA. Most are one day or one weekend (Friday evening-Sunday afternoon), are reasonably priced, and the weekend classes usually include accommodation. From having helped run many of these classes, I can say all the instructors are excellent. Of course I especially recommend the two weekend classes I’m teaching in April and May, 2016: “Creative Photo Weekend” and “Dramatic Shoreline Photography”. Please go to http://www.ptreyes.org for more info.

  8. Hillary Sloss at 6:17 pm

    Excellent list!
    Also to consider: Firefly Institute
    http://www.fireflyinstitute.com

    – Photo camp for women photographers (intermediate and beyond)
    – 20 different hands-on classes with top teachers, including Julieanne Kost (Adobe Digital Imaging Evangelist), Pei Ketron (Instagram sensation with almost 1M followers), and Michelle Turner (award winning portrait/wedding photographer)
    – Intimate size of 42 attendees learn, live, and eat together in a charming, summer camp-style setting with fun evening activities
    – A portion of proceeds goes to Ripple Effect Images (http://rippleeffectimages.org), a non-profit started by National Geographic photographer Annie Griffiths which helps women and girls globally through photography

Only a few more spots available!

  9. Jade Lee at 8:12 pm

Thanks very much for putting this together. It is definitely a helpful list for my annual travel! 🙂

I have one to add: Kathmandu Inside:Out (KIO)!

I participated in this visual storytelling masterclass in Kathmandu in November last year, led by Mr. Edwin Koo. Besides learning the craft of photography, it was also a rare opportunity for me to get very close to the local community (every participant was partnered with an English-speaking local buddy who helped to remove any cultural/language barrier we had throughout that trip).

One thing I find very meaningful about this workshop is that: through my participation, the program also sponsored another local who otherwise wont be able to afford to attend such classes. (hence the workshop was FOC for them)

I think this program is sustainable in a way that it gives back by helping to build the local photography community. So here I am recommending it! I see that you dont have anything on the list for November yet? This is it!

This year they run from Nov 25 to Dec 3, 2016. Link to the eight-day workshop: http://www.kathmanduinsideout.com/

    (Non-related but…) this is the story I weaved in that workshop 😛 : http://www.kathmanduinsideout.com/portfolio/the-long-road-home-2/

Happy taking photo and safe travel everyone!

This is such a wonderful roundup of outstanding photography workshops.

To add to the list….we are a team of professional photographers based in the very beautiful San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. We hope to have created something unique to the realm of photography workshops with SEEKworkshops. Informed by our careers as professional photographers based in NYC, we bring years of experience to SEEK, merging the worlds of photojournalism, documentary photography, studio still life, food, and fine art.

Our full-time presence and beautiful new campus here in San Miguel de Allende afford us the opportunity to build ongoing community around the process of image creation for all skill levels. We offer various workshop formats in addition to the standard week-long model, as well as one-on-one mentoring, allowing for more engagement with our participants to support the ongoing evolution of their work.

In addition to a love for the craft of photography both as an art form and means of creative expression, we have a shared philosophy about the power of photography as a tool in personal evolution. Although beautiful outcomes are always welcome, we believe the PROCESS of photographing, if approached rightly, tremendously heightens the quality of experience and engagement with the world around us, functioning as a means for increased self-awareness and ongoing evolution of ourselves.

By learning how to SEE better, we are more awake and alive and able to bring fresh perspectives to all aspects of our lives. All of our instructors, accomplished in different realms, share and encourage this vision. Our goal is to help you capture your truest seeing.

We look forward to welcoming you into the SEEK community, and sharing this remarkable city with you–the sights, the culture, the cuisine, and, best of all–the people. Please check out our website for upcoming dates in 2016/2017: http://www.seekworkshops.com.

    Hi,

First of all, thank you so much for this list – really useful for us globetrotters and photography enthusiasts.

I also have one to add to the list: https://www.destinsparks.com/

I’ve been on quite a few workshops with Destin Sparks, landscape photographer from Australia. He still shoots with Film Camera and favors well-executed timing capture and natural light to any sort of post processing (which, according to me, sets him apart from other talented photographer).

Anyway, he took us to Hamilton Island, Tasmania, Great Ocean Road in Australia and also the South Island in New Zealand. Every single workshops I’ve been to was an occasion for me to get out of my comfort zone, improve myself whether as an amateur photographer or a traveler. Since he knows perfectly the lands and the areas, he enjoys taking people off the beaten tracks (with safety of course) and shows them the natural beauties.

It’s a shame I moved back to France, I wish I could keep joining him on his trips.

Have a look at his website for more infos.

    Cheers guys,
    Isabelle “from Paris with love”

    Hi,

We are excited to announce our new photo tours and workshops in Latin America, Magical Light Adventures. After living in Mexico for more than six years, we know our participants will love working with us.

We have more than 35 years of professional photography experience, have shot several assignments for National Geographic and will offer small group travel.

Our first trip is in Chiapas in March 2017. Hope you can include us in your list.

    Thanks,

I really appreciate the insight here in this post and confident it’s going to be helpful to me and many others. I’m wondering if you or anyone else has additional sources for me to read further and to be able to dig a little deeper?
