This year, we did something a little different. Every month, we decided to give back to the community by donating to individual photographer projects all over the world. Around the office, we called this “Funded by PhotoShelter.” Everyone on the staff here was welcome to participate in selecting the projects that would receive a donation. And the decisions were tough.
The projects we discovered – 44 in total – were inspiring. They were stories about love, stories about loss, stories about healing, stories about culture, stories about our past, and stories about our future.
These 44 photographers raised almost $2 million to tell their stories. Pretty impressive.
Supporting these projects could not have happened without you. So, we hope this video gives you a little boost and some creative inspiration going into the new year.
Throughout the video, we feature moving stories from six inspiring photographers, including:
- Nancy Borowrick (Funded project: The Cancer Family Book Project)
- Lou Jones (Funded project: panAFRICAproject: Redefining the Modern Image of Africa)
- Gia Goodrich (Funded project: Love Wins – A Powerful Archive of LGBTQ Love Stories)
- Bradly J. Boner (Funded project: Yellowstone National Park: Through the Lens of Time)
- Kathy Shorr (Funded project: SHOT…101 Survivors of Gun Violence in America)
- Dylan Goldby (Funded project: The History and Culture of the Lai Tu Chin People)
Here’s to telling the stories you care most about in 2017. As always, we’re here to encourage you along the way.
