Attention PhotoShelter Sellers! Your Shopping Cart Has Been Optimized for Mobile
This week we’re rolling out another update you’ve been waiting for — and it’s one that should help you sell more in 2020.
It’s now easier than ever for your clients to purchase your images using a mobile device.
Buying prints, products, personal-use downloads or licenses on a phone or tablet is now as seamless as purchasing via desktop. We’ve made the shopping cart and entire checkout process 100% mobile-friendly (across all devices!), which means more sales and more money in your pocket.
Want attendees of an event to instantly see buying options? Pricing something in front of a client? Have a buyer on a deadline? No problem. No matter their choice of device they’ll be able to buy images simply and quickly.
Here’s what things will look like on mobile:
When a client navigates to an image that’s priced on your website, they’ll click the cart icon or “add to cart” link to see all of the available buying options.

They’ll select their preferences (all based on how you’ve priced the image for sale).

They’ll then head into the mobile-ready shopping cart to complete their purchase.

Voila! Images ordered.
A few important notes and reminders:
- Nothing on your PhotoShelter site is priced automatically. Just as with selling on desktop, you decide which images you want to sell and for how much. To use our selling feature, you’ll need to select a payment processor (like PayPal or Stripe), create a pricing profile and apply pricing to your image(s). Our Support Center has step-by-step instructions to help you get set up.
- You need to have your “add to cart” links enabled on your site in order for your clients to purchase. These can be found in both the Portfolio and Archive sections of your site.
Our mobile shopping cart improvements allow anyone to purchase from your site no matter their location — at home on their desktop or on the road on their phone or tablet.
Plus, be sure to check out our product roadmap to see what else is coming in 2020. We’re updating it constantly and are super excited to bring you more features and improvements!
I am interested in selling my photos by mobile phone. How do I get started, and is there a cost?
Hi Caitlyn
How do I go about selling my wildlife photographs?
Regards
Errol
Hey Errol, I recommend getting in touch with our Tech Support team who can walk you through the set-up process for selling. We’ve also got some great information in our Support Center with those details: https://support.photoshelter.com/hc/en-us/articles/203373610-Selling-Your-Work I hope this helps!
Do you have a step by step how to order via mobile document , we can share with our clients?
We have a step-by-step series of support articles for buyers here: https://support.photoshelter.com/hc/en-us/sections/360005623213-Purchase-License The check out process is the same as on desktop. If you’re looking for something totally mobile-focused I recommend getting in touch with our Support team. They’ll likely have a few questions for you and can put together a document for your clients!
Hi Caitlyn,
If I am using the Shuffle template so that a Portfolio page of select galleries appear – will the add to cart / download buttons appear if an image is clicked on from this first screen presentation. Currently it appears that the visitor must first enter the archive of galleries before he is afforded this option. I really like the Shuffle presentation but it appears to be not as optimized for mobile sales.
Thank you,
John Van Decker
Hey John, it sounds like you’ll want to look at your image viewer settings in the Shuffle template to enable the buy button. To do this open your Site Builder, click one of the images on your homepage and then you should see a blue edit icon on the right side that will say “Image Viewer” when you hover over that. Once open that will display all your options in the menu on the left and you can enable the “Buy/license button (if priced)” option. Just be sure to save and you should be all set! (Our Support team can also show you where this setting lives if you’d rather do it over the phone or via email with one of them.)
Is there still a percentage that Photoshelter takes from our sales? And if so, what is that if it’s changed? Thanks!
No changes to that, Deirdre! The transaction fee depends on your account tier with us (between 8-10% for all paid accounts). You can find more information on that here: https://www.photoshelter.com/fees
Isn’t there an entirely new cart system coming?
I hope you’ll consider changing one word in the order instructions as you’ve presented them here. Where you say (the pixel dimension displayed refers to the image’s longest side), it might be better to say ‘longer’ side.
Hi,
In the pivot template, which I use because it’s described as “Very tablet and mobile friendly”, I can see the buying icon under each photo on the main page but nothing when I’m being shown just one photo. What am I doing wrong?
I’m willing to use another template, but I do want it to be simple and very mobile friendly.
Thx,
Thomas
Hi Thomas, sorry for the trouble! I suspect you just need to enable a setting on your site. Our incredible support team should be able to help with that though. Shoot an email over to support@photoshelter.com and they can get this all sorted out.
Thanks Caitlyn, I’ve just sent an email about this. Out of curiosity, which was the template you were using in your screenshots? I haven’t tried them all but maybe I should just change to another one.
I have a website on here but the checkout process seems to be the same. Will it change over the mobile view process automatically? I’m using an iPhone and it looks the same which was one of my problems selling on my website. A better mobile checkout experience is greatly wanted. Please help!
Hey Jim, I just checked your site on my phone and it is showing me the mobile check out experience. Did things switch on your end? If not – or if you’re still having any trouble with your site – I recommend getting in touch with someone on our Tech Support team. They can help double check your settings and get this sorted out!
