When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade, right? These days, those words are feeling harder and harder to live by.

Between the news, concerns about the health and safety of ourselves and our loved ones, the economy and a whole lot more, many photographers and fellow artists are, understandably, having a hard time with government-mandated social distancing and quarantines as we collectively battle COVID-19. Generally speaking, freelancers are pretty familiar with working from home when not out shooting but less accustomed to managing constant interruptions like children trying to get the hang of remote learning or bandwidth issues caused by widespread internet usage.

I’ve been trying to stay as creative at home as I possibly can as a means of helping my own WFH productivity. Yesterday that included making myself a custom standing desk with what I had laying around my apartment. I’ve also been brushing up on my food photography skills and photographing my plants to pass the time.

Over the last week, our team has been wowed by photographers who are getting inventive during their personal quarantines and showing their resilience. I’ve seen backyard pet photoshoots, really fabulous macro photos and playful documentary photography illustrating just how chaotic children stuck at home can be. Some photographers have even started projects, like Project Social Distancing and #TheFrontStepsProject, to help us all feel a little more connected during our time social distancing.

Thank you all for using your talent, your point of view and your creativity to bring us together.

Take a look below at six photographers who inspired me with their “lemonade” this week. Who should we add? Have ideas for how to stay creative or productive at home? We’re putting together a list of tips for how to remain creative during this time and would love to see yours in the comments or via email.

This week on our feed we’re celebrating Miora Rajaonary and her personal project LAMBA. It’s “about the traditional garment ‘lamba’ in my home country, Madagascar, that carries the same name,” she told us. The project shows how this Malagasy garment serves as a valued symbol of the island’s cultural heritage, that it holds power far beyond its role as elegant and ornamental clothing.

We think Miora’s project might be a good source of inspiration for a photo project at home.

PhotoShelter is maintaining a list of COVID-19 resources for photographers.
