We’re getting close to Christmas gifts and New Year’s toasts – I can feel it in the frigidly cold NYC air. Today’s shout-outs are meant to warm you up, and include a best of 2010 gallery from some talented university photographers; adventurous vagabonds; a little HDR “decay”; women’s rugby in Iran, of all places; and one photographer who specializes in making a big splash.

Shout-Outs are a regular Friday thing, and you can be part of it, too. Send us suggestions! If we think it’s worth shouting about, it will show up here in the blog on a Friday. To submit something, scroll to the bottom to see how.

WOMEN’S RUGBY — IN IRAN

Abramo De Licio is a freelance photographer based in Rome, Italy, covering social, political and economic stories for Italian magazines.

One recent photo story was about the Iranian’s woman rugby team visiting Europe for the first time. The story was exhibited this year at the 25° Festival du Scoop et du Journalisme at Angers, France.

THE YEAR’S BEST FROM PURDUE

Andrew Hancock & Mark Simons are photographers who shoot for Purdue University. They put together a “Best of 2010” photo gallery that contain many really nice images.

Great work, guys!

HAS CAMERA, DOES TRAVEL

Alex Soh, a Singapore-based photographer, loves to travel across the globe with his camera, and his archive is filled with really wonderful images that prove it. His portfolio contains landscape images from places including Arizona, Chile, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Japan, and the United Kingdom, where this image (below) of a foggy bridge was taken.

Soh also leads groups on photo expedition trips to Japan, Cambodia and Sri Lanka, and you can learn more about that on his blog.

A SPLASH OF HUMOR
Photographer Tony Generico specializes in making a big splash. Literally. He is currently specializing in the art of capturing liquids flying in mid-air for many big name commercial clients.

“Along my career as a photographer, I got fascinated with high-speed photography, mainly in respect of fluid dynamics and its natural chaos,” Generico said.

“Currently, in the coziness of my customized studio and recent digital photography, I am having a great time applying modern technology in the pursuit of new solutions for comps and ideas.”

His promo materials are awesome – containing a lot of great humor about his “Splash” specialty.

“My primary concern in the search of a pleasant splash is to control the behavior of the flux of liquids into its fresh and natural beauty, creating images that are at the same time dynamic and unique with minimal post-production.”

DERELICTION AND DECAY
Mark Blundell is a UK-based photographer who shoots “mostly dereliction and decay, both industrial and architectural.” His images often use HDR techniques to bring added depth and feeling.

One such collection of images were shot inside of the abandoned West Park Asylum, near Epsom Surrey.

VAGABOND ADVENTURES

Have you been keeping up with “The Vagabond Adventures” team?

If not, maybe you should. Lucie (a ‘Scottish lass’), Lachlan (an ‘Australian bloke’) & Bow Wow (an ‘African dog’) are currently traveling the world, “helping communities through trade, not aid, and in support of wildlife conservation.”

“Our journey will be documented through writing, photography and film,” they wrote on their website.

You can also follow them on Twitter, at @vagabondventure.

I am always looking for things to include here in our Friday Shout-Outs – so if you have anything you think is worthy, let me know. One great way to do that is to post a note to Twitter with my name in it (@heygrover), and that way I won’t forget it later. Don’t have Twitter? Email me: grover-at-photoshelter-dot-com.
