This week we’re shouting about some photo gifts fit for a (future) king and queen, a crazy photo bike ride, and a host of photo exhibits.

Shout-Outs are a regular Friday thing, and you can be part of it, too. Send us suggestions! If we think it’s worth shouting about, it will show up here in the blog on a Friday. To submit something, scroll to the bottom to see how.

ROYAL WEDDING GIFTS
PhotoShelter member Glyn Davies got a surprise call from the office of British Prime Minister David Cameron, who just purchased 2 of his photo books as a wedding gift to Prince William and Kate Middleton – who were married today, and are now known as the “Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.”

NOT A WIMPY BIKE RIDE
Seattle-based photographer L.E. Baskow is going to ride his bike across the United States, and document his experiences along the way. He’s going to do this the hardcore way, though: No cars, no hotels, no luxuries.

Rain or shine, he’s going to ride his bike, sleep in a tent, and make pictures. He will be blogging daily and uploading galleries for clients and friends alike.

He is using Kickstarter to raise $2,000 to fund the trip. (I just donated $50 myself, mostly because I want to see him go all hardcore on a bike and sleep in a tent.

THE COLORS OF PANAMA
Miami-based photojournalist Andrew Kaufman will be in Panama this weekend for the inauguration of his latest exhibit “LOS COLORES DE PANAMA,” a long-term personal project that will be on display at Manolo Caracol (and is also available as a book.)

Date:
Sunday, May 1st @ 9am
Location: Manolo Caracol, Ave. Central Y Calle 3, Casco Antiguo, Panama City, PANAMA

SEA NOMADS
UK-based photographer James Morgan will be exhibiting work at the WPO in London this week, and again at The Royal Geographic Society the week after that. But that’s not all – he will display his work at the Hotshoe Gallery in London the week after that.

“It’s really taking off at the moment,” he said.

I’ll say! Congrats, James.

His story on sea nomads is the focus of all this attention. In addition to the gallery shows, the incredible work from this series has sold to over twenty different magazines around the world so far.

TWO EXHIBITS, ONE GRAND CANYON

Adam Schallau, best known for his photography of the American West, will be exhibiting his Grand Canyon images in two venues in Fort Worth, Texas, during the month of May.

The show, “Grand Canyon: Through the Lens of Adam Schallau”, will be exhibited at the Fort Worth Central Library and Fort Worth Community Arts Center. A collection of 25 inspirational photographs of Grand Canyon National Park, some of which were created when he was the park’s Artist-in-Residence.

“My mission is to capture and share with you, the viewer, the spirit, energy, and drama that is Grand Canyon. See the Grand Canyon image collection,” he said.

Dates: May 1 – 31, 2011

Fort Worth Community Arts Center

I am always looking for things to include here in our Friday Shout-Outs – so if you have anything you think is worthy, let me know. One great way to do that is to post a note to Twitter with my name in it (@heygrover), and that way I won’t forget it later. Don’t have Twitter? Email me: grover-at-photoshelter-dot-com.
